Together Alberta round table held in Rocky

Jun 11, 2019 | 12:10 PM

On Monday, Together Alberta, during their series of roundtables taking place across the province, sat down with members from many of the non-profit groups in Rocky Mountain House to discuss plans to advance what are known as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The SDGs were developed by the United Nations in 2015 in the hopes the world would reach all of them by the year 2030.

During the initial roundtable, members from various organizations discussed what issues they believed were distressing the community.

Problems ranged from “lack of awareness in social programs” and “people having stigmas towards individuals who need help”.

One attendee even commented, “I notice no one from the municipality is here, why is that?” The host of the event stated they were invited but most representatives responded saying that it was too short of notice to come.

Together Alberta says these sessions are not an attempt to fix anything just yet, but merely to discover where the province is with its social programs, where people believe it is, and where people think it should be.

These initial roundtables are to gather information and will be mapped online, allowing the public to see the work local organizations are already doing at https://acgc.ca/get-involved/together-alberta/
