Trade mission to promote Alberta’s agricultural strength abroad

EDMONTON- The Alberta government is sending a delegation to Japan and South Korea to promote the province’s agricultural goods.

Economic Development Minister Tanya Fir is heading to Tokyo and Seoul.

Her goal is to showcase Alberta canola, wheat, beef, pork and other food products.

She says improving market access to diverse customers is critical to producers.

The new Trans-Pacific Partnership will reduce Japanese tariffs for beef, pork, wheat and canola oil.

Last year, Alberta exported almost $2,000,000,000 worth of goods to Japan, making it the third ranked country in terms of Alberta’s exports.

Alberta exported $553,000,000 worth of goods to South Korea last year.
