Jun 5, 2019 | 3:48 PM

The preliminary hearing for a man charged in a March 2017 homicide in Red Deer will continue next week.

The hearing for Gabriel Agotic got underway last week. The 34-year-old faces one count of manslaughter.

It was just after 6 a.m. on March 29, 2017 when Red Deer RCMP were dispatched to an apartment to assist with a male suffering from serious injuries after being assaulted. He was eventually flown to a Calgary hospital and placed on life support but died the following day.

An autopsy determined Mathiang Chol, who was 26, died by homicide.

Agotic remains in custody with the preliminary hearing slated to resume on Tuesday (June 11).

A man accused of sexually assaulting a young girl in Red Deer last Canada Day will stand trial this fall.

Darrien Francis Nepoose, 19, is charged with aggravated sexual assault.

RCMP began their investigation on July 2, 2018 after receiving a report of an aggravated sexual assault the previous night on a 14-year-old female. The girl sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries from the assault.

Mounties said the victim was known to the suspect.

Nepoose will be in Red Deer Court of Queen’s Bench on October 10-11, 2019 for trial by judge alone.

Sentencing has been delayed for a Red Deer man convicted of stabbing his girlfriend’s father in Oriole Park nearly two years ago.

Linden Joseph Lee Buffalo, 29, was found guilty of aggravated assault and mischief under $5,000 in relation to the Aug. 6, 2017 incident.

RCMP attended a residence on Orient Green to investigate complaints of a serious assault.

Madam Justice Marilyn D. Slawinsky described the incident as an alcohol-fueled domestic argument that escalated into one individual suffering serious injury after being stabbed with a large knife in the neck, hip and hand.

Court heard the incident took place at Buffalo’s residence after a long night of drinking when he and his common-law wife began to argue over Buffalo’s alleged interactions with other women at the bar that night.

The argument escalated to the point where the woman locked herself in a bathroom and called her father, Travis Peterson, for help. Peterson arrived soon afterwards, punched Buffalo him in the face while he was in bed pretending to be asleep, and was suffered stab wounds during the ensuing altercation.

The case returns to court on July 8 to set a sentencing date, which was to happen on Monday until court heard a pre-sentence report and Gladue report were not yet completed.

Stephen Jones was the primary focus of ALERT’s investigation. The 23-year-old has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and nine firearms offences.
