ROAR hosting Kitten Cafe to promote pet adoptions

Jun 4, 2019 | 10:57 AM

Today (Tuesday) the ROAR Society in Rocky Mountain House is trying something new in an attempt to find more of their cats some permanent homes, a temporary cat café.

In what the society is calling the Kitten Café, people can go into the public library and have some coffee and tea while bonding and playing with some of the cats available for adoption.

“This is our first time doing it, so we’re going to see how it goes, what the interest is and it may be something we do in the future again,” says Shelter Manager for the ROAR Society Kalyn Salmon.

With people having such busy schedules in the summer, ROAR tends to get an increase in animals brought in while animals getting adopted starts to slowed down.

With a bit of lull in adoptions this time of year, ROAR society has taken steps to make sure their process for adoption couldn’t be easier.

“If you’re interested in adopting a cat we have an adoption questionnaire, you can find it on our website at roarsociety.ca or our Facebook page,” states Salmon.

“You just fill out the adoption questionnaire, you can send it in by email and bring it into the shelter and then we review it, set you up with an appointment, meet the cats then we go from there.”

ROAR makes sure that their cats have all of their vet medical work done and most of the felines are well socialized with other cats, and volunteers spend time with the animals to insure they’re also very people friendly.

“Having a pet is a very good investment,” says Salmon. “They’re very good for therapy and having in your life. Many people that take on an animal, never ever regret it.”
