Two charged after Amber Alert on Saturday

Charges have been laid after an Amber Alert was issued over the weekend in the Fox Creek area, northwest of Edmonton.

RCMP say three young children, aged between nine months and four years, were found safe in a vehicle on Highway 20 north of Sylvan Lake after the alert was issued early Saturday morning. The children were unharmed but were taken to hospital as a precaution.

They were in the vehicle with their mother, who was arrested.

According to police, the children were abducted from a residence in Fox Creek at 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Charmaine Annette Darnel, 42, of Whitecourt is facing a number of charges including three counts of abduction of a person under 14, assault, and uttering threats.

D’artangan Dirk Pool, 23, of Lethbridge faces charges that include three counts of abduction of a person under 14, assault, uttering threats and forcible confinement.

Darnel was to appear in Grande Prairie provincial court today. Pool is scheduled to appear in Fox Creek provincial court on June 24.
