Penhold dryer fire causes minimal damage

PENHOLD- Firefighters responded to a small structure fire at a home on Larne Place Thursday evening around 11:45.

The fire started in the laundry room at the dryer plug in.

The plug over-heated and had melted which started the vapour barrier on fire.

A teenage girl was downstairs and heard a pop and saw flames and went upstairs and told her mom.

Her boyfriend turned off the breaker and smothered the fire with a towel.

Fire Chief Jim Pendergast said, “They did the right things, calling 911, disconnected the power and evacuated.”

Damage is estimated at $2000.

There were no injuries.
