Man charged for leaving explosive devices in downtown Red Deer

A 31-year-old man faces several charges after two explosive devices were found at Safe Harbour Society last week.

Red Deer RCMP Corporal Karyn Kay confirms two separate devices were discovered at the facility on 53 Avenue on Thursday, May 23.

No one was injured when the first device went off in the parking lot.

At about 3:30 p.m., Kay says a staff member at Safe Harbour located the second device inside their building. It was moved outside and later detonated by the RCMP explosive disposal unit out of Edmonton.

Charges against Eric Hotchkiss include causing an explosion, making an explosive device, possession of a prohibited firearm and mischief. He is to appear in Red Deer provincial court on June 25.
