Gas prices drop as province scraps carbon tax

Gas prices in Red Deer fell as much as seven cents on Thursday as the United Conservatives cancelled the provincial tax on gasoline and home heating fuels put in place by the NDP.

An Alberta carbon tax on large industrial emitters of greenhouse gas emissions remains in effect.

Premier Jason Kenney says the tax didn’t stop the global rise of carbon emissions and his government is delivering the biggest tax break in the province’s history by getting rid of it.
