Students get active to promote Community Better Challenge

The ParticipACTION bus rolled into Red Deer on Tuesday promoting health and wellness to thousands of local students.

A joint initiative by Red Deer Public Schools and Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools, the day kicked-off at West Park Elementary School where students from there and St. Martin de Porres School participated in a mass game of tag and other outdoor activities.

With the aim of becoming the most active community in Canada, schools are encouraging students and their families to take part in the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge from May 31 – June 16.

Officials say one Canadian community will have the chance to win $150,000 that will go towards physical activity and sport, tying into the Move Your Mood Challenge that both school divisions have been participating in for the past eight weeks.

The ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge is a brand new annual physical activity challenge that rallies communities to sit less and move more together. Officials are calling on all Canadians to get active and incorporate physical activity where they live, work and play.

At the conclusion, ParticipACTION will recognize and celebrate community achievements, crowning regional winners with $20,000 and ultimately appointing one community with the designation of Canada’s Most Active Community!

To participate, track your daily physical activity using the ParticipACTION app – the active app for everyone – and inspire your friends and family to do the same!

ParticipACTION will remain in Red Deer for the upcoming Children’s Festival as well on May 31.
