Local runners place well in annual Woody’s RV World Marathon

The annual Woody’s RV World Marathon, half marathon, and 10 km events took place Sunday under mostly sunny skies.

Taking the win in the men’s marathon was Brett McPhedran of Revelstoke, BC with a time of 2:52:27.40.

The next closest male competitor –Brian McArthur of Red Deer County — was nearly a full eight minutes behind.

On the women’s side, Sherwood Park’s Cassandra Tomas finished with a time of 3:19:02.00, 20 minutes ahead of the runner-up.

The top female racer from central Alberta was Maria Cappis of Blackfalds who came ninth with a time of 3:57:39.43.

In the half marathon, Allan Brett of Calgary (1:16:03.99) and Kristen Spady of Red Deer (1:26:57.52) took the gold medals.

In the 10 km race, Red Deer’s Matthew Hope (00:35:01.05) and Edmonton’s Morgan Lawley (00:41:48.85) crossed the line first in their respective categories.

Approximately 800 people took part in Sunday’s events.
