Touch-A-Truck draws large numbers in support of Crime Prevention Centre

The fourth annual Touch-A-Truck event in support of the Central Alberta Crime Prevention Centre (CACPC) went off without a hitch on Saturday at the CrossRoads Church parking lot.

A gorgeous day led to what will likely go down as the most successful edition of the event to date.

Janise Somer, Program Development Coordinator with the CACPC, said they are continuing on with many initiatives such as graffiti removal, education for residents and businesses, crime prevention through environmental design, and seminars on theft and fraud for seniors.

“We encourage people to get to know their neighbours so that we can understand who those people are and then be able to recognize any suspicious activity that might be happening in the neighbourhood so that we know to report it to RCMP,” she said.

At the end of the end of the day, it comes down to common sense, Somer added.

“Let’s not be paranoid, but let’s do a good job of locking our car doors, making sure there aren’t valuables in sight that somebody would want to break into your car to take,” she said.

“Make sure your property is well kept, there are good sightlines to and from your house, make sure your doors are locked, just those kind of common sense things that maybe sometimes we get a little bit lazy about.”

Touch-A-Truck is the CACPC’s largest fundraiser of the year.
