Convicted murderer Douglas Garland’s rights were violated: Lawyer

The Alberta Court of Appeal has reserved its decision in a bid by a Calgary man to overturn his conviction in the murders of a couple and their grandson.

The lawyer for Douglas Garland argues evidence found at his client’s farm after Alvin and Kathy Liknes and five-year-old Nathan O’Brien disappeared should not have been allowed at his first-degree murder trial.

Alias Sanders told the court that police didn’t have enough evidence to obtain a search warrant when they went to the farm looking for the trio.
