O'Chiese Murder

Jury trial slated for man charged in O’Chiese murder case

May 8, 2019 | 10:05 AM

A jury trial will take place this fall for one of two men charged in a murder on the O’Chiese Reserve last year.

Jamie Jerome Tyler Whitford, 25, is scheduled to have a jury trial in Red Deer Court of Queen’s Bench Oct. 5-Oct. 23.

Whitford faces charges of accessory after the fact to murder, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle in the Nov. 9, 2018 incident.

That’s when Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to an incident at the Sunchild Gas Station where a male victim was found suffering from serious injuries following an altercation.

Mounties say the victim was taken to hospital where he later died, while two other people suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle which was later located in the Drayton Valley area and a spike belt was deployed to bring the vehicle to a stop.

RCMP allege one occupant of the suspect vehicle carjacked a truck driver at gunpoint and was taken to the O’Chiese First Nation where he went to a residence and became involved in a standoff with police.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit laid charges in the death of 23-year-old Arley Creed Lagrelle, as well as the assaults on other victims and the carjacking of the truck driver.

Evan Ernest Foureyes, 29, is charged with second degree murder, assault with a weapon and kidnapping.

Foureyes is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 28-29.
