Grade one students at Barrie Wilson mark Arbor Day

May 8, 2019 | 2:23 PM

École Barrie Wilson Elementary School was the site of Red Deer’s annual commemorative tree planting ceremony held in recognition of Arbor Day on Wednesday.

Red Deer city councillor Lawrence Lee was on hand alongside City Parks staff and grade one students who each received tree seedlings to plant.

Across Red Deer, over 1500 grade ones received a Lodgepole Pine seedling, which they are encouraged to plant at home or in a natural area of Red Deer.

Each Arbor Day, a local school is picked as the location in which a tree is planted. The City of Red Deer is donating a Bur Oak this spring.

Arbor Day is hosted by The City of Red Deer in partnership with Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, Appollo Landscaping Services, Red Deer Public Schools, Red Deer Catholic Schools and all private schools.
