INNISFAIL-Jason Drent brings nearly two decades of educational expertise to his new role as Associate Superintendent, all of which took place in Chinook’s Edge School Division.

Drent began as a math teacher at Sundre High School in 2001. He established himself as a master teacher and passionate leader, and moved into the roles as Vice-Principal and then Principal of Sundre High over the following decade.

He became Principal of École John Wilson Elementary School in Innisfail in 2014, rounding out his K-12 leadership experience.

He has spent the last three years as part of the Central Office Leadership Team, in the role of Division Principal.

“We are pleased to have an accomplished Chinook’s Edge leader taking over this critical role,” said Superintendent Kurt Sacher. “Jason is known for his energy, his attention to detail, and uncompromising commitment to students and staff in this division. He is an expert in the use of educational technology to improve teaching and a highly regarded leader in expanding opportunities for students through his tireless involvement in a number of initiatives. He is known as a caring and devoted leader.”

“I am so proud to have this opportunity,” said Jason Drent. “I’m excited about the progressive nature of our division and the focus we have on our goals for student learning. It has become clear to me over the course of 18 years in Chinook’s Edge that this division is focused on success for students and staff, and strong community partnerships.

The Associate Superintendent of Learning Services position became available after long-serving Chinook’s Edge leader, Lissa Steele, announced her upcoming retirement.

Highly regarded across the province, Lissa has provided a long transition phase so that she can remain in the role and provide mentorship until her retirement on March 1, 2020.
