You’ll wanna rock!

The Tony-nominated Rock of Ages, celebrating its 10th anniversary, is coming to Red Deer’s Westerner Park Centrium on May 8.

Set in 1987 on Hollywood’s Sunset Strip, Rock of Ages features the music of iconic bands such as Styx, Poison, Twisted Sister, Whitesnake and many more.

“Even if you haven’t sat and listened to all this stuff, you still know every single song. It’s really epic music,” says Katie LaMark, who performs in the lead role of Sherrie Christian.

“It’s glam rock, it’s grunge and it’s edgy and fun and sexy. It is just two and a half hours of solid fun.”

LaMark, a Boston native, shares her most enjoyable part of performing.

“It’s looking out in the audience and seeing a lot of parents bringing their kids, and it’s their first introduction to the music that was important to those parents,” she says. “It’s a great way to bring their young adult kids and show them what they were listening to and what their culture was growing up.”

The script for the 10th anniversary is more contemporary while still honouring the time period in which it’s set.

“Weve given our ladies a little bit more of a spine, and we see a little bit more conflict, and a new lens that we’re looking at the story with that I think is more compelling to a broader audience,” LaMark explains.

Tickets for Rock of Ages are available now through Tickets Alberta.
