Big day for Bantam Rebels at WHL Draft

It was quite the day for the Red Deer Bantam AAA Rebels on Thursday as eight of their players were selected at the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft.

Nate Danielson was the first to go as the Brandon Wheat Kings moved up five spots to select the talented forward fifth overall in the first round. Danielson was outstanding for the Rebels in 2018-19 with 59 points in 29 regular season games and 22 points in 12 playoff games.

The Wheat Kings also selected Red Deer defenceman Kaiden Ellertson 96th overall in the fifth round.

Also in the fifth round defenceman Avery Trotter was selected by the Spokane Chiefs. Trotter had 16 points in 32 regular season games and 4 points in the playoffs.

Forward Tyler MacKenzie was selected by the Medicine Hat Tigers in round six, 122nd overall after racking up 51 regular season and 17 playoff points.

Three bantam Rebels were selected in the seventh round: forward Nash Bamford by the Kamloops Blazers, forward Ty Daneault by the Saskatoon Blades, and defenceman Porter Pennock by the Prince Albert Raiders.

Defenceman Connor Claughton was selected in the ninth round by the Prince George Cougars.
