LPS charge man who allegedly kidnapped and assaulted girlfriend

LETHBRIDGE– Lethbridge Police have charged a 54-year-old man in connection with an alleged incident where his girlfriend was kidnapped, assaulted and unlawfully confined.

LPS responded to a home on April 28 to check on the welfare of a woman inside and found that she had been severely beaten.

An investigation found the woman’s boyfriend visited her home on April 26 – contrary to previous conditions of recognizance to have no contact with her stemming from a domestic assault charge – forced her into his vehicle, threatened her and drove her to an RV.

Once inside the RV, police say the man proceeded to assault her, and the woman was confined to the RV for two days and was not provided with food or water afterwards.

On April 28, he drove her back to her home and threatened to kill her if she reported what happened.

The victim sustained cracked ribs, extensive bruising to her arm and torso as well as internal kidney damage.

The man, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim, was located and arrested late Sunday night.

He’s charged with kidnapping/unlawful confinement, intimidation, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats to cause bodily harm and breach of a recognizance.

He has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 7.
