SAVING ELK

Elk collision renews call for wildlife fencing through Canmore

CANMORE- An environmental group is renewing calls for wildlife fencing along the Trans-Canada Highway through Canmore after seven elk were killed on the weekend in a collision with a transport truck.

Officials with the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative, which is based in Canmore, say fencing and an overpass for wildlife to cross over the busy highway would make it safer for animals and people.

RCMP say the truck driver wasn’t hurt in the collision, but noted officers had to put down three of the seven elk that were hit.
