Generals earn bye to semis, Eagles to play Thursday at Allan Cup

The host Lacombe Generals benefitted from a sizeable upset on their day off Wednesday at the 2019 Allan Cup.

In the final round-robin game of the tournament, the Hawt-Madawaska Panthers upended the South East Prairie Thunder 4-1.

As a result the Generals (1-1) as a result finish first in division two thanks to the tie-breaker formula and earn a bye into Friday’s semi-finals.

In Wednesday’s early game the defending champion Stoney Creek Generals doubled up the Rosetown Redwings 6-3 to finish first in division one (2-0) and also earn a bye to the semis.

Thursday’s quarterfinals games will see South East (1-1) take on Rosetown (1-1) at 4 p.m followed by Hawt-Madawaska (1-1) versus the Innisfail Eagles (0-2) at 8 p.m.

The championship game at the 2019 Allan Cup goes Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex.
