Local unemployment rate rises in March

The unemployment rate for the Red Deer Region rose in March but remains second lowest in Alberta.

The latest Statistics Canada numbers show the local unemployment was 5.3 per cent last month, up from 4.7 per cent in February.

Alberta’s unemployment rate last month was 7.2 per cent, up from 6.8 per cent in March 2018.

The region including Banff, Jasper, Rocky Mountain House, Athabasca, Grande Prairie and Peace River posted the lowest jobless rate in the province in March at 4.4 per cent.
