Voters have two chances to hear from candidates in Red Deer this week

Apr 8, 2019 | 2:51 PM

Voting day is swiftly approaching, and parties are making a concerted effort to get the word out about their plans for the future of the province.

This week in Red Deer, local candidates will participate in two forums, giving the electorate an opportunity to decide which side of the fence they’ll ultimately fall on.

The first is on Wednesday at the Radisson hotel from 6:30-9 p.m.

Hosted by the Building Industry and Land Development Association, the forum will focus on residential construction, commercial construction, and the real estate industry.

“We are hosting the candidates forum to give an opportunity for our members to hear candidates discuss issues that are important to their industry,” says Denie Olmstead, CEO of BILD Central Alberta. “This forum will also give an opportunity for the candidates to learn more about the industry and the role our associations have within the industry.”

This forum is also being put on in partnership with the Central Alberta Real Estate Association, and the Red Deer Construction Association. It will be moderated by Brandon Bouchard.

On Thursday, April 11, the Red Deer and District Chamber of Commerce is hosting a forum at the Westerner Park Harvest Centre.

That event runs from 6-8 p.m..

Remaining forums in Red Deer will feature candidates from both the south and north constituencies.

Elsewhere in central Alberta, the public is invited to a forum hosted by the Rocky Mountain House and District Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, April 9.

That one gets going at 7 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion (4911 49 Street)

Then, on Wednesday, April 10, Innisfail-Sylvan Lake candidates will debate starting at 6 p.m. inside the Penhold Regional Multiplex Library.

Forums were previously held at the Golden Circle in Red Deer with a focus on seniors, at Festival Hall focusing on diversity, and at the Lacombe Memorial Centre.
