One man wanted as RCMP and police in Dubai charge pair in drug seizure

K Division RCMP, with assistance from Dubai Police, and the Canada Border Services Agency, have completed an international opium importation investigation.

The drugs are said to have originated in Iraq and were en route to Edmonton.

The investigation resulted in 4.75 kg of opium being seized, according to Mounties.

Klara Biernacki, 26, and Shahriyar Dolat Khah Bachchek, 39, both Edmonton residents, have been charged with Importation of Opium, and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.

Biernacki is scheduled to appear in an Edmonton courtroom April 19, while an arrest warrant has been put out for Bachchek.

Bachchek is believed to be driving a 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander, dark grey in colour, with Alberta plate BCB 8963. If seen, he should not be approached.

“The assistance provided by the Dubai Police and CBSA was crucial to this case and is an excellent example of how international police cooperation is effectively working together to address the drug trade,” the RCMP state in a release.
