Localized flooding

Temporary trail closures due to flooding

Mar 29, 2019 | 5:00 PM

Ice build-up on the Red Deer River has caused isolated flooding and as a result, the temporary closures of two riverfront trails in Red Deer.

City officials say effective immediately, the riverfront trail from the CPR Pedestrian Bridge to Bower Ponds is now closed, as is the riverfront trail from Great Chief Park (Kiwanis Picnic area) to The Heritage Ranch Pedestrian Bridge.

Officials say barricades are in place to notify local trail users of the closure.

Trails users are also reminded not to move or cross the barricades for their safety and the safety of other park users.

Parks staff are anticipated to be monitoring site conditions throughout the weekend, with any further updates to be shared on the City’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
