Eckville man now accused of sexually assaulting children

Mar 8, 2019 | 9:49 AM

An Eckville man arrested and charged in January for alleged child porn-related offences is now accused of sexually assaulting several children.

Following an extensive ALERT Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit investigation, numerous new charges relating to child sexual exploitation have been laid against the man, bringing the total counts against him to 73.

ICE’s continued investigation into the 34-year-old has identified at least eight child victims who were allegedly sexually assaulted by him dating back to 2013.

Following media coverage of his arrest in January, police say a number of potential victims came forward with information. ICE identified additional victims through a forensic analysis of computers and other electronic devices seized from the man’s home that so far has yielded more than half a million images and videos of child sexual exploitation and voyeurism. ICE forensic technicians have yet to complete their full analysis.

The man has remained in custody since he was arrested by Sylvan Lake RCMP on January 18 on counts of making child pornography, possessing child pornography, accessing child pornography and voyeurism.

The long list of new charges against the man includes multiple instances of sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, voyeurism, possessing, accessing, distributing, and making child pornography, and breach of recognizance.

His initial arrest came after ICE received information from Australia’s Task Force Argos, a specialized online child exploitation unit of the Queensland Police Service. Sylvan Lake RCMP, Fox Creek RCMP, the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre in Red Deer, and the Caribou Child & Youth Centre in Grande Prairie have provided extensive assistance on the case.

Anyone with information about this investigation, or any cases related to child sexual exploitation, is encouraged to come forward and contact police or Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-TIPS).
