Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools has received over $27,000 from Family and Community Support Services for mental health programs in Sylvan Lake and Innisfail.

$13,000 was granted to St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic School in Innisfail. $14,548 was given to Ecole Our Lady of the Rosary and Ecole Mother Teresa Catholic School in Sylvan Lake.

“This grant will give us a chance to provide education on mental health. We are thankful and excited for this opportunity to educate and help our school,” said Principal Kelly Jacobson at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic School.

With the funds, the schools will be able to bring more awareness around mental health and self-regulation. This will be done by educating students on coping skills, social inclusion and building connections with others. Staff will now be able to access professional development training to help students learn these concepts in the classroom.

In a news release Dr. Davis Khatib, Associate Superintendent of Inclusive Learning at Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools, said “Our Family School Enhancement Programs play an important role in bridging the gap between families, local/community agencies and the school. They ensure that our families are able to access the necessary supports to function optimally. Within that, our Family School Enhancement Counsellors are all highly trained and experienced individuals who ensure that there is a continuity of service year-round for school-aged families,”
