Red Deerians warned of email scam

Dec 4, 2018 | 1:13 PM

Officials with the City of Red Deer are warning residents of an email scam currently making the rounds.

The City’s Revenue and Assessment Services department says reports are coming in of suspicious emails that appear to be coming from The City noting a change in the Tax Installment Plan (TIP) that requires them to re-enter their banking information.

TIP customers are asked to use caution if they receive an email requesting banking and other personal information and not to respond or click any links before they can ensure the authenticity of the email.

Officials say The City will not ask for banking information through email but use an email to alert customers of changes to the TIP program.

Precautionary measures for customers include verifying the sender’s email address (not the sender name) to ensure the email has come from a reddeer.ca email address.

You can also contact The City’s Revenue and Assessment Services department directly at assessment@reddeer.ca or 403-342-8126 to confirm.

Anyone who has received this email and provided personal information is asked to contact RCMP.
