RDC volleyball players earn Athlete of the Week honours

A pair of volleyball players have been announced as the latest Boston Pizza RDC Athletes of the Week.

Libero Kaylee Domoney helped ther RDC Queens Volleyball team defeat the visiting Medicine Hat College Rattlers in a pair of matches last weekend at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

In Friday’s three set victory (25-21, 25-22, 25-15), the Business Administration Human Resources student was a stabilizing force on defence and contributed 10 digs, while helping to set up the Queens’ offensive attack.

In Saturday’s four set win (25-23, 14-25, 25-20 and 25-19), the third-year student-athlete from Red Deer recorded 17 digs and 6 assists, and was recognized for her strong effort as the Queens Player-of-the-Game.

Meanwhile, the Kings Regan Fathers put up statistics on the court that are almost unheard of at any level of volleyball, let alone in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC).

In a close five set outing (25-19, 23-25, 25-16, 28-30 and 13-15), the Kinesiology student impressively totaled 31 kills, 3 service aces, 5 digs and 2 block assists, while hitting for 50 per cent efficiency against the visiting Medicine Hat College Rattlers.

In Saturday’s four set victory (23-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-14), the six-foot-six right side hitter elevated his game, accumulating 37 kills, 1 assist, 1 stuff block, 4 digs and 1 block assist, while increasing his hitting percentage (0.509) against the previously undefeated Rattlers.

Father’s contributions went well beyond statistics, displaying leadership and helping to sway momentum in favour of the Kings with his positive words and actions.

RDC Athletics officials say Fathers was deservedly selected the Kings Player-of-the-Game in both matches.
