Arm-wrestling series partially shot in Red Deer debuts this weekend

A 13-episode series documenting Canada’s arm-wrestling scene is finally set to premiere this weekend.

Arm Nation, which shot scenes at a spring 2017 competition in Red Deer, will air its English language version’s pilot on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) this Saturday night at 7 p.m.

The show previously debuted in the Dené language.

Co-producer Maureen Marovitch says it’s exciting to finally be able to share the passion of the arm-wrestling community.

“One thing if you watch every week is you’ll notice the people are very diverse in the series. Our youngest arm-wrestler is 20, our oldest is 53,” Marovitch says. “They all have day jobs, none of them are professionals, but they are super dedicated, super passionate and motivated.”

She says there are also heartwarming stories of the support networks competitors have, with friends and family often along for the ride, as well as great female stories from this male-dominated sport.

The show’s final three episodes are dedicated to nationals, Marovitch adds. She also hopes APTN will eventually greenlight a second season.

If you miss the show on TV, episodes can be streamed at APTN.ca. Additional information is also at ArmNation.tv.
