South Walmart’s location adds ‘modern look,’ online shopping option

Following six months of renovations, A vastly improved shopping experience awaits Red Deerians at the Walmart Supercentre location at 2010 Gaetz Avenue.

Thanks to a $175 million investment by Walmart Canada, 23 stores across Canada are being enhanced, including four in Alberta.

Between $5-10 million was spent on the major renovations between the four Alberta locations.

In Red Deer, improvements include expanding the fresh grocery area and dairy department. There are also now self-checkouts, wider aisles, clearer signage throughout the store and a larger emphasis on in-store pick-up with a dedicated side-entrance.

“I was just speaking to a customer the other day about our expanded ethnic selection and her comment back to me was that we’ve now saved her a trip to Calgary that she used to have to do once a week,” says Lee Myers, store manager.

“We have a broad range of customers we’re trying to attract — customers that visit in-store, but also online. There are different demographics within the store and people want to shop in different ways. So by us updating and modernizing our store, they’re able to shop how they want to shop.”

Myers also noted there are wider aisles to make customers’ lives easier, and the store’s exterior received a fresh coat of blue paint recently.

Walmart Canada says between the 23 stores being updated prior to February 2019, approximately 2500 jobs will have been created.
