Arrests made following repeated refusal by driver to stop

Sep 29, 2018 | 2:29 PM

RCMP from Innisfail and Blackfalds successfully completed a high-risk arrest on Friday.

Sometime on Friday, Blackfalds RCMP received a request to assist in locating a stolen vehicle, one which was equipped with On Star, enabling police to locate it using GPS.

Once it was located, efforts were made to pull it over, however the driver continued to drive in a manner dangerous to the public, police say.

With further assistance from On Star, the vehicle was located by Innisfail RCMP, but continued efforts to pull it over were ignored by the driver.

According to Mounties, the driver then attempted to damage police vehicles.

Members from both detachments used police equipment to gain access to the vehicle by breaking windows while the car was still in motion at a very low speed.

The driver continued to ignore commands to stop, but eventually RCMP were able to arrest the driver and two other occupants of the vehicle.

There were no injuries or further damage to property.

Caroline Bernice O’Hara of Innisfail remains in custody and faces several new charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. She awaits a bail hearing.

Kala Dixon of Red Deer and Steven Robert Carr of Edmonton also remain in custody awaiting bail hearings.
