No pot for Calgary police even on days off

CALGARY- Police say they’re erring on the side of caution by banning officers from consuming marijuana once it’s legalized — even on their days off.
The police union has slammed the directive issued to members of the service last Friday — saying the force “took the easy way out.”
The ban applies to members who are qualified to use firearms and are able to be operationally deployed — which union president Les Kaminski says pretty much covers everyone.
The police service says the policy was the most logical place to start until more research can be done into the drug’s effects and metabolization rates — and it’s not ruling out changes in the future.
