Red Deer & District Labour Council to host Annual Labour Day BBQ

Sep 1, 2018 | 3:30 PM

As Canadians celebrate the last long weekend of summer, the Red Deer and District Labour Council will do the same by hosting their 4th Annual Labour Day BBQ on Monday, September 3.

Officials say the event initially focused on the unemployed, under-employed and the homeless population but now organizers have noticed an increase in families and seniors over the past two years.

“We wanted to do something similar to the Labour Day BBQ’s hosted by Labour Councils in Calgary and Edmonton,” says Karen Reay, long-time Secretary Treasurer with the RDDLC, in a press release. “We’re very happy with the support and turnout we’ve been getting each year as the event continues to grow.”

“We have something for everyone,” adds recently elected Labour Council President, Kyle Johnston. “We also take the opportunity at the BBQ to provide information on the Labour Council and its activities. This year, as we did last year, we will be promoting the National Pharmacare Campaign.”
