Small plane disappears en route from Edson to Westlock

Aug 14, 2018 | 8:24 AM

A search is underway for a small plane and solo pilot who failed to turn up at its scheduled destination Saturday night.

Westlock RCMP said they were alerted yesterday by the Coast Guard Rescue Coordination Centre that a small plane and lone pilot was overdue in their area.

Mounties say on August 11 a Cessna 172 left Edson at 5:20 p.m. and was due to land in Westlock at 7:00 p.m. The plane never arrived at its destination and no contact has been made with the pilot and lone occupant.

The plane is described as white with black and red stripes.

RCMP are asking land owners in the Evansburg, Mayerthorpe, Barrhead, and Westlock areas to check their land to see if the plane may be on their property.
