Blue-green algae advisory issued for Three Mile Bend
The City of Red Deer has issued a blue-green algae advisory for a pond at Three Mile Bend off-leash dog park.
This after members with the City’s Environmental Services department identified a blue-green algae bloom in late July and sent water samples for testing in anticipation of the results coming back positive for cyanobacteria, otherwise known as blue-green algae.
As a result, officials say signs have now been posted in the area, advising residents to avoid human or animal contact with any visible algae bloom at the park.
This means pet owners are asked to be especially vigilant in inspecting the water and shoreline before allowing their pets to enter the water.
