The Red Deer Riggers Senior AAA baseball team is celebrating a big tournament win over the weekend.

The Riggers hosted their 38th annual tournament at Great Chief Park and went undefeated in four games to capture the tournament title.

It started with an 8-4 victory over the Calgary Cardinals Friday night and was followed up with a 2-0 shut-out win over the St. Albert Tigers on Saturday.

Sunday saw the Riggers in the semi-final against the Edmonton Cubs where they dominated in an 11-2 win to earn a birth in the final against the Sherwood Park A’s.

It turned out to be another strong performance as the Riggers shelled the Athletics 11-1 to capture the tournament championship.

The game saw the Riggers score two runs in the second and third innings then five in the fifth before adding two more in the sixth.

The Riggers pounded out 15 hits in the win, including a two-run homerun and single from third baseman Jaret Chatwood.

Pitching was strong as well as Chad Price allowed just one run in the six-inning victory.

The Riggers don’t have long to celebrate though, they’re back at it Monday night for a tilt with the Confederation Cubs.

A trip to nationals in Victoria, B.C. is also on the horizon.

That tournament runs August 22-26.
