UPDATE: Phone lines down for Drayton Valley, Brazeau County residents

UPDATE: The Alberta Emergency Alert for Drayton Valley and Brazeau County has ended. The service provider has restored all phone and internet services in the area.

A cut telephone cable has prompted an Alberta Emergency Alert for the Town of Drayton Valley and Brazeau County.

The alert was issued at 12:34 p.m. after the cable was cut, affecting the abitlity of town and county residents from being able to use their landlines. The Village of Breton and surrounding hamlets are also affected.

Standard telephone lines as well as DSL based internet are offline as well, with only cellular service remaining fully operational.

A post to the Town of Drayton Valley’s Facebook states that the affected fiber cable was cut by construction work occuring near Leduc.

Crews are currently working on fixing the issue, with no estimated time for things to be back up and running.
