Fire Chief Thomson honoured with national excellence award

Drayton Valley/Brazeau County Fire Chief Tom Thomson received a prestigious medal Wednesday morning. 

Thomson was given the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal at Town Council Wednesday with Drayton Valley-Devon MLA Mark Smith on hand to present the medal. 

The medal’s a national accolade given to fire personnel who have completed 20 years of service, given out by the Governor General of Canada. Thomson has been with the fire services for 25 years. 

Thomson said that he doesn’t do his job to be commended, however he does appreciate the recognition. 

“Being recognized by different levels of government as well as fire services is something that I’m extremely proud of,” said Thomson. “I’m happy about it, it’s nice to receive this award.”

The medal, which has been handed out since 1985, states that exemplary service is characterized by good conduct, industry and efficiency.
