Justin Flunder of the Notre Dame Jr. Cougars has been named Football Alberta’s Bantam Coach of the Year.
Flunder has had a brief but very successful run at the minor level in Red Deer. As the Red Deer Steelers Pee-Wee Coach in 2015 he led the team to an undefeated season. In 2016, he moved up to the bantam level with Notre Dame and went 1-6 before guiding them to a league championship in 2017.
The Cougars went on to defeat the Millwoods Grizzlies 56-21 in the Provincial Tier II Semi-Final then win a thriller over the Parkside Pythons 20-12 the next week to claim the first ever Provincial Tier II Championship won by a team outside Edmonton or Calgary.
