Anonymous donation made to Medicine River Wildlife Centre
A central Alberta man has stepped up to help the Medicine River Wildlife Centre.
Executive Director Carol Kelly says the gentleman is donating $20,000 for the installation of the roof on the new hospital, but wishes to remain anonymous.
That installation happened on Wednesday.
Kelly expressed appreciation for the significant contribution, but says work is not done yet.
“One of the next stages is to paint the outside of the building and we have a local painter who has offered to come out and paint that for free. We also have the Lions Club in Red Deer who’ve offered to do the electrical for us,” she says. “We have someone willing to do the shingles for free, we have another company who’s going to lay the conrete floor for us, and another doing the inside painting for free.”
Kelly says even with all that committed labour, they still need to raise bout $400,000, a large chunk of which will go towards the new plumbing and heating system.
The centre found out last month it would not be receiving any money from the provincial CFEP grant and thus must forge ahead with fundraising before it can open the doors to its new hospital.
