MORE FUNERALS TODAY FOR HUMBOLDT CRASH VICTIMS

Two more victims of the Humboldt Boncos bus crash will be held today. Connor Lukan will be laid to rest in his hometown of Slave Lake, Alta. The funeral for team trainer Dayna Brons will be held in Humboldt. They were among 16 people with the Humboldt Broncos who died after a transport truck and the Saskatchewan junior hockey team’s bus collided on April 6.

HUMBOLDT TRIBUTE CONCERT PLANNED

A concert to honour the Humboldt Broncos — and those affected by the team’s fatal bus crash — will be held later this month in Saskatoon. Organizers of the Country Thunder Music Festival say they’ve booked the city’s SaskTel Centre for April 27. A list of performers will be unveiled at a news conference this morning. Gerry Krochak, a spokesman for the organizers, says ticket revenue will go to families of the Humboldt players.

CENTRAL BANK TO MAKE RATE ANNOUNCEMENT

The Bank of Canada will announce today whether it will raise interest rates and issue its latest predictions for the economy. Most economists expect the central bank to retain its key rate at 1.25 per cent, the level it has been at since the last small increase in January. But they’ll be watching to see if central bank governor Stephen Poloz signals more rate hikes ahead.

CANADA’S EMISSIONS DOWN SLIGHTLY IN 2016

Canada’s latest greenhouse gas inventory report to the United Nations shows emissions are starting to trend downward, but not nearly at the rate needed to meet the country’s commitments under the Paris climate change accord. The report shows Canada emitted 704 million tonnes in 2016 — down 1.4 per cent from the year before.
