Brandt Tractor recognized as Top Employer in apprenticeship industry

Red Deer’s Brandt Tractor has been recognized as one of Alberta’s top employers in the apprenticeship industry.

The business was recently honoured with a Top Employer award at the 21st annual Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board Awards announced on Friday.

An event that paid tribute to more than 70 of the province’s best and brightest, recognizing the top apprentices, employers, technical training instructors, mentors and employers of Indigenous apprentices.

Elizabeth Kawahara, a Landscape Horticulturalist from Olds College was recognized with a Top Instructor award.

“Good jobs begin with a good education and ensuring we’re providing the training and job-ready skills that people need is a critical government priority,” said Marlin Schmidt, Minister of Advanced Education in a press release. “These awards help us acknowledge the important contributions our apprentices and journeypersons make to communities as our province moves towards a more modern and diverse economy.”

“Our members take a tremendous sense of pride in the outstanding work done by apprentices and mentors throughout our province,” added j’Amey Bevan, Chair, Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board. “This year’s class of recipients will now become the mentors and role models who will help our apprenticeship and industry training system excel in training and performance.”

Government officials say Budget 2018 provides $31.4 million for apprenticeship, including the development and delivery of trade programs, adding Alberta has more than 50,000 apprentices in the province working in more than 50 designated trades and skilled occupations.
