Father Lacombe Catholic School to be modernized

The modernization of Father Lacombe Catholic School has made the list of 20 new school projects announced by the province on Friday to get started this year.

The K-9 school in Lacombe is part of the St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Separate Regional Division No. 38.

No word yet though on exactly how much is being allocated for the school’s modernization project but it’s part of the government’s 20 projects slated to start this year which include seven new schools, seven replacements, three modernizations, one addition and two approved for design, totaling $393 million in 2018.

Officials say these 20 projects will create more than 4,900 jobs, with construction on almost all of them to begin in 2019 after design work is complete. Completion is scheduled for the 2022-2023 school year.

“Our kids deserve to learn and grow in modern classrooms,” said Premier Rachel Notley in a government news release. “That’s why we are improving existing schools and building new ones where they’re needed. With our announcement of 20 new and modernized school projects, we are making long overdue progress and making sure all young Albertans can get a great education.”
