AHS promotes National Addictions Awareness Week
CENTRAL ZONE – Alberta Health Services (AHS) is teaming up with individuals, community groups, schools and businesses across the province to celebrate National Addictions Awareness Week, which runs Nov. 12 – 18.
National Addictions Awareness Week helps to raise awareness about issues related to substance abuse and problem gambling. The week is also an opportunity to highlight prevention and the ways in which all Albertans can play a role, big or small, towards supporting addiction-free lifestyles.
There are many ways to help prevent substance abuse. An important one is to support parents in role modelling healthy behaviours and talking with their children about alcohol and other drugs. Building and maintaining positive mental wellbeing can also protect against the development or worsening of an addiction.
The theme for this year’s National Addictions Awareness Week is ‘Small Actions Make big Differences.’ The following is a list of some events taking place in Central Zone communities:
