Red Deer man sentenced for assaulting Mounties in Eckville
A Red Deer man has been sentenced for an altercation in Eckville where two Mounties were assaulted.
Two RCMP officers were called to a disturbance at the Eckville Post office on the afternoon of February 19, 2015.
When they arrived to arrest the man causing the disturbance he choked one of the officers and punched the other in the head. He also tried to grab one of the officers’ firearm. The man was eventually arrested after additional officers were called to the scene.
Leon Williams, 53, was convicted in June on two counts of assaulting a peace officer, one count of mischief and one count of resisting arrest.
