The Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Sylvan Lake has announced her plans to retire next spring.

Betty Osmond’s contract ends May 6, 2018. She has been CAO for the Town since 2010.

Osmond says serving the community of Sylvan Lake has been a great privilege.

“My time as the Town’s CAO has been and continues to be a great experience both professionally and personally as Sylvan Lake has become my home, my family’s home,” she says.

“I will leave the position knowing that our municipality is on the right path in terms of managing and preparing for a sustainable future. Over the next six months I will continue to work with Council and our senior management team to prepare for a smooth leadership transition.”

Osmond adds she’s confident that the appeal of the community, its economy and municipal organization will help attract the right person for the job.

Sylvan Lake Mayor Sean McIntyre says Osmond has served the Town of Sylvan Lake diligently and with excellence.

“CAO is a vital leadership role in municipalities and in a rapidly growing community like Sylvan Lake, it is crucial to have the right person for the job, which Betty certainly is. Over the past seven years, we have made great strides as a community, thanks to Mrs. Osmond’s wealth of experience, professional advice and organizational leadership,” McIntyre said.

“As Mayor and on behalf of my colleagues on Council for the Town of Sylvan Lake, I want to thank Mrs. Osmond for all of her hard work and the passion with which she has served our community.”

Officials say the search for a new CAO will commence with a Request for Proposal to select a firm to handle the recruitment process.
