Chinook’s Edge achieving levels of excellence in Accountability

Chinook’s Edge School Division is celebrating strong results in its Accountability Pillar report from Alberta Education.

The annual results report is comprised of Student Achievement data and student/parent/staff Satisfaction Survey results.

Chinook’s Edge officials say the Accountability Pillar report shows an increase across the division in the number of students who are achieving both levels of ‘Acceptable’ and ‘Excellence’ in Provincial Achievement Tests and Diploma Exams.

Chinook’s Edge Superintendent Kurt Sacher says these results are an important indication that the district’s strategic focus on academic excellence is impacting students at every grade level.

“Our school teams are working hard to ensure students have the curricular background and foundational knowledge needed to achieve success,” said Sacher. “But they are also focusing on our other strategic divisional priorities of literacy, social emotional framework development and career transitions. This core focus of our work, both at the school and division level, is paying dividends in our Accountability Pillar results.”

Chinook’s Edge officials say parents are also highly involved in the district and continue to respond at a level of excellence to the question ’Has your school improved in the last three years?’

“Our drop-out rate was already low and we’ve reduced it significantly because of the collective responsibility occurring on every school team that ensures a network of support for every student,” Sacher continued. “That said, we continue to focus on our high school completion rate. Although we have a high standing as a division with an above provincial average of 79.2 per cent of our students graduating, we feel we can still do better.”

“The Board is very pleased with the excellent work being accomplished in our schools,” added Board Chair Colleen Butler. “The clear, strategic goals that we’ve been sticking to, along with the commitment of staff, students and parents, is leading to great success for our students.”
