Fire risk closes provincial parks in southern Alberta

Sep 5, 2017 | 6:52 AM

A high fire risk has led to closures in a number of provincial parks in southern Alberta.

Alberta Environment and Parks says wildfire conditions in the affected areas are well past the extreme level, and that in such conditions, wildfires can move very fast and embers can create new fires several kilometres away.

Parks Canada has also closed many hiking trails in Waterton Lakes National Park and some campgrounds in southern Alberta due to the extreme fire hazard.
