Lacombe cop injured arresting mail thieves

A Lacombe police officer suffered minor injuries when he went for a wild ride trying to arrest suspected mail thieves.

It was at about 7 p.m. Friday when the officer observed a suspicious van parked in the city’s west end. A female and two males inside the van were then identified and arrested on outstanding warrants.

While the arrests were taking place one of the males ran back to the vehicle. The officer gave pursuit and attempted to stop the van from fleeing by jumping in the back and removing the keys from the ignition.

However, the van sped off with the officer trapped in the back, stopping a short distance later when the driver fled on foot.
