Red Deer area unemployment rate continues to fall

RED DEER- More positive news about the number of people unemployed in the Red Deer area.

The jobless rate dropped from 7 per cent in June to 5.8 per cent last month.

The unemployment rate in our area was all the way up to 9 per cent in May.

However the story was much different across the rest of Alberta.

Stats Canada numbers show our province lost 14-thousand jobs in July, raising the provincial unemployment rate to 7.8 per cent from 7.4 per cent in June.

Nationally, the jobless rate fell to its lowest point since October of 2008.

The unemployment rate fell two-tenths of a per cent to 6.3 per cent as the number of people job-hunting dropped.

The economy added almost 11-thousand jobs, marking the eighth straight month of growth.
